Transmission details: Weaving through a tapestry of music, interviews and historical accounts, Cockles of My Heart explores the stories, ecologies and spirits of Morecambe Bay. This immersive sound piece commemorates a lineage of trauma and extraction within the landscape. It traces back to colonial trade in neighboring Lancaster, overharvested cockle habitats and exploited workers in Morecambe Bay, and looks further to a future of deep-sea mining beyond the shore. Through all these imprints of trauma, Cockles of My Heart searches for a place of solace and healing in the spirit of the sea and the intertidal rhythms of Morecambe Bay. It’s a tale of unmappable routes, cheap death, hands like leather, shapeshifting, time washed and renewed, and the cautious tellings of water and moon.
